Award supports women’s professional academic and career goals
(Concord, NH | May 5, 2016) – Joanna L. LoConte of Salem, New Hampshire, and an Associate at Nathan Wechsler and Co., a full service accounting and financial advisory firm with offices in Concord and Lebanon, was awarded the Zonta Club of Concord’s Jane M. Klausman (JMK) Scholarship. The program supports women in their education and careers in business, and LoConte joins the more than 300 women business leaders who have received financial and professional support from the organization.
“Zonta takes its name from a Sioux Indian word meaning ‘honest and trustworthy,’ which makes receiving this scholarship especially humbling,” said LoConte, who is pursuing a Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Forensic Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). “This financial support will help fund my graduate degree while furthering the scholarship’s goal of fostering gender equality in senior management roles.”
A non-governmental organization, Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to improve the status of women. Approximately 33,000 members in 68 countries hold membership, which is classified according to occupation. Zontians volunteer their time, talents, skills and energy to local and international service projects designed to advance the status of women.
LoConte currently holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting with a minor in Psychology from SNHU. She works with a variety of clients in the Greater Concord area managing accounting, compliance, financial statements, income tax return preparation and special projects. In addition to her work and professional pursuits, LoConte is a longtime volunteer for many organizations including the American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics.
“Maintaining a work-life balance is crucial in the financial services industry, and something we prioritize at Nathan Wechsler and Co.,” said Rusty Mosca, managing director at Nathan Wechsler. “Joanna’s ability to serve clients, her community and advancing her education is to be commended, and we join the Zonta Club of Concord in recognizing her accomplishments.”
The JMK Scholarship is open to women of any age pursuing an accredited business or business related program who demonstrates outstanding potential in her field. Zonta International awards 12 $7,000 scholarships and up to 32 regional $1,000 scholarships each year. As a recipient of a regional award, LoConte is eligible to compete at district and international levels for additional awards. To learn more about Zonta Club of Concord, visit zontadistrict1.org.
